Tax Breaks Just Got Better: Florida’s New Sales Tax Law Explained

August 10, 2025

Back-to-school shopping just got a major upgrade in Florida — and it’s here to stay!

If you live in Palm Beach County, you’re in luck: a new law has turned what used to be a short, blink of an eye type of ‘holiday’ into a full month of savings. The entire month of August is now your golden window to snag up the savings while you stock up on the goods.

Here are the four biggest things you should know about Florida’s refreshed Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday in 2025:

Permanent and Extended: The holiday now runs August 1st through August 31st every year, replacing last year’s shorter window or weekend-only.

Expanded Item Eligibility:
Enjoy sales tax exemptions on clothing and footwear under $100, school supplies under $50, and learning aids/puzzles up to $30. Personal use computers and accessories under $1,500 qualify as well.

Permanent Exemptions Beyond August: Effective this year, everyday essentials like batteries, life jackets, fire extinguishers, insect repellent, sunscreen, and more are permanently tax‑free year‑round without any price caps.

More Predictable Savings: With the holiday now a fixture in Florida’s calendar, families can plan ahead and avoid last-minute shopping rush and/or retailer uncertainty.

For Palm Beach families, this means easier budgeting and smarter timing! Something I know all about as a local Realtor.
