You’ve seen the cranes and construction equipment for months now on the Loxahatchee River and Intracoastal. Northern Palm Beach County and southern Martin County residents have long awaited the repairs on the US 1 bridge to commence – and now a date has been set.
A full bridge closure is intended to start on Monday, March 13 and will be closed for approximately 20 months. Traffic will be detoured to Alternate A1A where modifications have also been taking place during the past year. Both permanent and temporary improvements were implemented to improve traffic flow along the detour route.
FDOT representatives encouraged residents that they are still on schedule and staying within their estimated $122 million planned budget. Local municipalities are doing everything they can to keep this project moving quickly and smoothly for their residents – which includes a $3.5 million incentive to contractors for adhering to the proposed timeline.
Additionally, Intelligent Transportation System technology has been installed to monitor and actively manage traffic to maintain mobility along the detour route. Modifications to the new traffic improvements can be made based on the data collected. So yes, it may be a bit of an adjustment period for a short time, but the improvements will be well worth it!
