Tightly nestled into a corner pocket of the Jupiter Commerce Park is Busch Wildlife Sanctuary. Since 1994, the Busch Wildlife Sanctuary has become a matter of community pride for the Palm Beaches, Treasure Coast, and its residents. It is top ranked on things to do in Jupiter according to Tripadvisor.com and welcomes more than 100,000 visitors annually. The Sanctuary has undoubtedly helped to make our community a very desirable place to live and visit.
In 2021, Busch Wildlife Sanctuary took in 25% more animals than the previous year – almost all of which had been negatively impacted by humans. This is just one prime example of the Sanctuary’s need for a larger space.
The Busch Wildlife Sanctuary broke ground last month at its new location in Jupiter Farms near the intersection of Rocky Pines Road and West Indiantown Road where it will have double the space for the animals. The new facility will also allow for more space and opportunities to host visitors and educate the public.
The new location includes five wetland and hundreds of native trees and plants that they will help to preserve while also adding to it with native trees and plants. The $15 million facility is set to be built throughout 2022 and will move the animals at the conclusion of its completion. They expect to welcome the public by early 2023.
Until then, the Sanctuary still offers residents and visitors a unique opportunity to learn about nature through interactive educational programs. The Sanctuary’s wildlife rehabilitation efforts also provide a much needed community service in helping sick, injured, and orphaned wild animals often found in our local areas.
In addition to the rescue operations, visitors can enjoy nature trails through pine flatwoods, oak hammocks, and cypress wetlands that are inhabited by a variety of wild native animals from eagles to panthers, foxes, snakes, and more.
